Job Title: Counter Sales Associate – Urgently Hiring
Pay: $20–$25/hour without refrigeration experience; $25+/hour with experience
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; every other Saturday (4-hour shift)
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a Counter Sales Associate for a full-time, temp-to-hire position for our client, a well-established distributor of HVAC and refrigeration products located in Auburn, MA. The Counter Sales Associate will serve as the first point of contact for walk-in and phone-in customers, providing excellent customer service, handling orders, and supporting sales efforts. This is a customer-facing, detail-oriented role where success is defined by accuracy, professionalism, and a strong ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
 

As a Counter Sales Associate, you will be responsible for:

  • Promptly assisting customers at the counter, asking relevant questions, and taking orders accurately.

  • Providing exceptional customer service and conducting yourself professionally at all times.

  • Promoting MITCO and Sid Harvey-manufactured or remanufactured products to support upselling efforts.

  • Entering and retrieving data from the computer system, including customer orders, pricing, inventory info, and quotations.

  • Following up with customers on orders and resolving any concerns promptly and professionally.

  • Alerting the Branch Manager of any missed sales opportunities or recurring product issues.

  • Answering phone calls professionally to assist customers and process orders.

  • Providing accurate product or job quotes as needed.

  • Demonstrating knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, and heating products to best meet customer needs.

  • Continuously learning about product inventory and warehouse organization.

  • Communicating policies and procedures related to returns, purchases, or credit terms to customers.

  • Assisting with general branch maintenance and cleanliness, including counter, warehouse, and restrooms.

  • Reporting backorders or inventory discrepancies.

  • Performing accurate cycle counts and participating in year-end inventories.

  • Following all company safety procedures and reporting any hazards.

  • Operating forklifts and pallet jacks as required (training provided if needed).


The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent

  • 1+ years of customer service or counter sales experience, preferably in HVAC, plumbing, or distribution

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to problem-solve on the spot

  • Proficiency with computers and inventory/order management systems

  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently, and occasionally up to 100 lbs

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

  • A team-oriented and professional demeanor

  • The ability to safely operate warehouse equipment (must be able to pass a drug test)
