Job Title: Inside Buyer – Urgently Hiring
Pay: $80,000/year
Hours: Full Time
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking an Inside Buyer for a direct-hire position for our client, a recycling and materials management company located in Portland, ME. The Inside Buyer will be responsible for the marketing, advertising, and purchasing of scrap metals (both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous) for the peddler and retail book of business within a defined geographic area. The Inside Buyer ensures communication is maintained between receiving facilities, Outside Buyers, and management regarding material flow. This is a full-time, permanent position located in Portland, ME.

As an Inside Buyer, you will be responsible for:

  • Inspect and review material loads for quality, compliance, and safety

  • Analyze and report daily purchasing and scale transactions

  • Assist in competitive bid preparation and material grading

  • Communicate with regional management to confirm bids and purchases

  • Maintain pricing accuracy and communicate updates to internal teams

  • Search for new customers through phone outreach and follow-ups

  • Support customer onboarding and relationship development

  • Provide superior customer service at receiving scales and over the phone

  • Coordinate with office staff for accurate purchasing documentation

  • Conduct market research and report pricing and trends

  • Prepare and submit bids with appropriate internal approvals

  • Follow internal controls and report non-compliance or irregularities

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field preferred

  • 1–2 years of industry or sales experience

  • Excellent customer service, communication, and negotiation skills

  • Proficiency with Windows-based software including Outlook

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and adaptability

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform office-related physical tasks for extended periods

  • Willingness to travel regionally and work in a scrap yard environment when needed
