Material Handler – Cold Storage Facility (Portland, ME)

Pay: $22/hr
Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

The Material Handler role, based in Portland, ME, involves working in a cold storage facility, handling various warehouse tasks such as order fulfillment, inventory counting, and put-away. This temp-to-hire opportunity offers potential for long-term employment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate Crown Sit-down Forklift and Turret Truck for loading, unloading, and inventory organization.
  • Fulfill orders, assist with cycle counting, and ensure proper product storage.
  • Perform physical inventory checks and report discrepancies like shortages or damages.
  • Inspect products for damage, infestation, and proper labeling.
  • Safely store inventory and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
  • Follow Food Safety protocols and Good Distribution Practices (GDPs).
  • Assist with additional warehouse tasks and maintain flexibility for operational needs.
  • Conduct equipment inspections to ensure safe operations.
Cold Storage Environment
  • Dock temperatures: 32-35°F; Freezer areas: -10°F; Truck interiors: 50°F.
Requirements
  • Equipment: Experience with sit-down or stand-up forklifts (1-year required).
  • Safety: Comfortable working at heights up to 35 feet (harnessed).
  • Physical Stamina: Lift up to 50 lbs; stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Teamwork: Positive attitude, flexibility, and respect in a team setting.
  • Food Safety: Preferred knowledge of food safety regulations.
  • Cold Storage: Experience in cold or freezer environments is a plus.
Additional Information
  • Training & Certification: Includes a week of hands-on training, one-on-one mentoring, and a drive test with certification.
  • Facility: A 106,000 sq. ft. cold storage facility with advanced equipment and safety protocols.
