Job Title: Temporary Billing Specialist – Urgently Hiring!
Pay: $19.22 – $24.88 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Start Date: ASAP
We are seeking a Temporary Billing Specialist for a temporary position with our client located in South Portland, ME. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for processing, appealing, and following up on claims to various payers including government, commercial, worker’s compensation, and liability payers. The ideal candidate will use critical thinking skills to resolve patient inquiries and assist with billing-related concerns, ensuring the efficient resolution of issues. This is a temporary position with potential for permanent hire after the initial assignment.
As a Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for:

Processing claims and following up on pending claims with payers to ensure accurate payments.

Resolving patient inquiries related to statements, insurance, payments, and financial assistance.

Researching and resolving insurance overpayments and patient credit balances.

Working closely with payers to resolve claims processing issues, including appealing denials and sending corrected claims.

Assisting patients with issues related to accounts in collections and legacy system accounts.

Acting as a resource for sites assigned to your department, including providing education and training for PSRs.

Working with the coding team to minimize claim rejections and maximize revenue.

Maintaining positive relationships with patients, payers, and internal teams through effective communication.
The ideal candidate for this role will have:

High School Diploma or GED required.

2+ years of clerical or related experience, with primary care claims experience preferred.

Proficient in data entry and use of MS Office products. Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-9/ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding is preferred.

Strong attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to adapt to changing workflows.
