Job Description


Job Title: Cook Assistant – Urgently Hiring
Pay: $22/Hr. (negotiable for candidates with extensive commercial cooking experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 5:30 AM start time – typically ending by 2:30 to 3:30 PM
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a Cook Assistant for a full-time, temp-to-hire position with our client, a respected food manufacturing company located in Westbrook, ME. The Cook Assistant will support the manufacturing kitchen by preparing, scaling, and delivering ingredients to the cook, ensuring all processes follow strict food safety and quality standards. The Cook Assistant ensures smooth production flow, adheres to recipe specifications, and maintains high sanitation standards. This position offers a strong opportunity for growth, including potential advancement into team lead roles.

As a Cook Assistant, you will be responsible for:

  • Following all food safety, GMP, HACCP, and SQF regulations while performing job duties

  • Assisting with weighing, measuring, and handling of ingredients for large-volume batches

  • Maintaining sanitary work areas and ensuring allergen protocols are followed

  • Documenting processes accurately and legibly to support traceability and compliance

  • Transporting and delivering prepared ingredients to cooks on time

  • Calibrating pH meters and testing tools and assisting in monitoring raw and finished product specs

  • Detecting product variations and notifying leads or supervisors as needed

  • Collaborating with the Cook Supervisor to maintain efficient production timing and ingredient preparation

  • Lifting up to 60 lbs regularly, with partner lifting for anything heavier

  • Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisor or lead


The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A high school diploma or GED

  • Previous industry experience in food production or manufacturing (preferred)

  • Ability to convert measurements between metric and standard units

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation skills

  • Demonstrated dependability, strong work ethic, and a flexible attitude

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English (reading and writing)

  • Willingness to work in a physically demanding role that requires standing for 10-hour shifts

  • Ability to work in environments with heat, humidity, and wet conditions
